Privacy Policy

Draft for legal review — not yet attorney-approved. Last updated: September 2026

1. Data we collect

Account data (email, phone, username, profile), optional location (city and private GPS coordinates for Near Me — coordinates are not shown on your public profile), OAuth identifiers (WeChat, Google, Apple), and content you create (reviews, posts, meetups, uploads). We also collect usage logs and device information needed for security and analytics.

2. How we use data

To authenticate you, personalize recommendations, operate Near Me and meetup features, send notifications you opt into, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations. Location coordinates power nearby discovery for you only; admin analytics use city-level aggregates, not individual GPS pins. Real-name verification data (China) is hashed and processed per provider configuration.

3. Sharing

We do not sell personal data. We share data with service providers (SMS, email, cloud storage, analytics) under contract, and when required by law. Public profile and UGC you publish are visible to other users.

4. Your rights

You may access, update, or delete account data via Settings. You can unlink sign-in methods and opt out of non-essential notifications. For data export, deletion, or other privacy requests, use our dedicated privacy contact form (not a general inbox). We aim to respond within applicable legal timeframes (e.g. 30 days under GDPR where applicable).

5. Retention & security

We retain data while your account is active and as needed for legal compliance. We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is 100% secure.

6. Location & Near Me

If you enable GPS or IP detection, we store city and coordinates on your account to power Near Me and meetup suggestions. You control whether your city appears on your public profile (Settings → Location). Guest Near Me uses approximate IP location for that session only — we do not create a profile or persist guest coordinates. Administrators see city-level heatmaps and counts, not a list of individual user GPS coordinates in the product UI.
